At lunchtime today I had a call from Police Scotland to inform me, as chair of Turriff and District Community Council, that a man had been arrested in relation to the murder of Brian McKandie.
It has taken 12 months for Police Scotland to make this arrest, from the information we have seen from the police, the investigation has been long and painstaking.
Now that a suspect has been arrested and will be appearing in court on Monday, it is important to remember that we should refrain from naming them or sharing any information about them online.
For due process to be carried out and a conviction of a guilty person to take place, it is vitally important that the process isn’t hindered or frustrated.
Our thoughts as always are with the family of Mr McKandie.
