Any local historians about?
I’ve been asked about the proposals for the Markethill Primary School site after the school moves to its new location at Meadowbank Road later this year.
As I understand it, the current school building will be offered to other council directorates & partners for use once it is vacated by the school. If there is no interest in the buildings then there is a plan to strip it out and demolish it. After the buildings have been demolished and the site cleared I can only assume that it will be put to other use or sold by Aberdeenshire Council.
Now, here’s the thing, I’ve been told that the land the school occupies was gifted to the council for building the school on and educational purposes. I’ve also heard that
this was so long ago that nobody will remember and it will be sold.
I’ve asked our local councillors to look in to this, but are there any local historians or anyone that remembers anything about this, who could provide more information?
If the land was gifted for the purposes of building a school and education then it would be a shame if it ended up being sold for development.
