In the political melee that Main Street in Turriff turned into yesterday when the First Minister arrived, people asked me, do you really want to be part of this? Or why are you getting involved?
In answer to those, and many other questions, I have tried to cover my beliefs, principles and aims in this one post.
I am not interested in the politics, so I won’t be part of ‘this’, I am interested in the communities in Turriff and District ward, that is what I want to play a greater part in. I’m standing as an Independent candidate so I can work with the communities and for the communities, I’m not going to be doing the bidding of any political party.
I’d really like it if you would give me your 1 vote on Thursday so I can build on the good work I’ve been doing in Turriff and take this into the other communities in the ward.
I am at a disadvantage in some ways because I don’t have the experience of the currently serving councillors, but we all have to start somewhere. I think the work I have done in Turriff with the Community Council and other groups, puts me on a strong footing and shows my commitment to making the community in which we all live, a better one.
If you vote 1 for me on Thursday, you are voting for someone who will be a strong independent voice on Aberdeenshire Council, not following any party line, working only in the best interests of the communities who elected me to represent them, in the way they want to be represented.
If you place your trust in me, I will be a full time councillor, working in our communities for their benefit.
To support this I have already said publicly that if I am elected, I will continue to service my current clients and complete any work I have started, but I will not be working to expand my business whilst I am a serving councillor. If you put your faith in me to represent you then I should dedicate my time to doing that.
I will remain independent, I won’t suddenly decide to join a political party. If you vote for me as an Independent candidate then that is what I will be.
To support this I’ll go as far as to say, if after being elected on May 4, in the very unlikely event that I would want to become a member of any political party, I will resign as your councillor, giving you the opportunity to decide if you still want me to represent you as a party candidate.
yes read that again,
in the very unlikely event that I would want to become a member of any political party, I will resign as your councillor, giving you the opportunity to decide if you still want me to represent you as a party candidate.
Will any other candidate give you that kind of guarantee?
Voting 1 for me will allow me to work on my pledges of
- Protecting services
- Minimising the impact of any cuts
- Ensuring that education and leisure services are supported
- Supporting our traditional businesses
- Working with Police Scotland to keep officers in our communities
- Working to get improvements to the safety on the A947
- Focusing on local business and employment opportunities
- Ensuring that appropriate housing schemes are supported
- Keeping democracy and decision making local
I have also pledged to be as accessible and transparent in everything I do as your councillor as I possibly can.
I will make myself available to the communities in Turriff and District ward in the most appropriate way, either in person, on the phone or digitally. If you want to see me face to face then I will make sure it happens, I will answer your phone calls and E-mails in a timely manner. If you want to contact me online then I will make sure I respond to you there. Whatever is the most suitable and appropriate means of communication for you, I will endeavour to use that to communicate with you.
I will tell you what I am doing, not by having my picture taken at some event, but by actually keeping you informed of what I am scheduled to do, what meetings I am attending, when I will be in your community and then backing this up with what I actually did.
What I won’t do is abandon the people of Turriff and District ward 6 months after you elect me as your councillor.
If all of this sounds like the kind of councillor you want to represent you, then please give me your 1 vote on Thursday and I will do this and more to support you.
